The Prettiest Dried Pressed Flowers Editorial at Sanctuary Camelback in Scottsdale, Arizona

Last summer, we had the opportunity to create this STUNNING shoot inspired by dried, pressed flowers. We had the most incredible vendor team for this fun shoot that showed up and busted their [sweaty] asses in the 110+ degree day. We had limited daylight and lots to capture! But, the end product is something I’m so proud of. When we got these photos from Mary Claire Photography, our jaws hit the floor. The uniqueness of her authentic and romantic style combined with the overall esthetic of the day paired perfectly together to create magic. Again, we were/are so proud of this editorial.

Typically when we write a blog post about a shoot, we explain the inspiration behind the shoot, how we decided on color palette, and talk about all of the fantastic people who helped to bring the design to life. But today we aren’t going to talk about that. Today, I’d like to tell you why I’m just now sharing this shoot from LAST summer.

I have personally spent hours and hours trying to get this shoot picked up and featured on a wedding blog. ANY wedding blog. It was important to us to showcase the talents that created what you see in these spectacular images. Each time I submitted this shoot, it was politely rejected. Over and over and over again [usually without a reason for the decline given]. Or, I wasn’t allowed to submit it at all because I wasn’t a paying vendor. For those of you who might be new to the industry or who are just plain curious… back in the day, you used to be able to submit your work to any/all wedding blogs for a possible feature. Today, the internet is SO saturated with styled shoots and content [in general] that the blogs started making you pay to be featured [or making you essentially pay for a membership that gave you better opportunity to be considered for a feature]. They needed a way to slow down submissions while also making a pretty penny in the process. It’s genius, really. However, I don’t want to pay to have my work featured… I want you to feature my work because it deserves to be featured.

To the consumer, it appears some vendors are featured almost daily but it’s so misleading to the work they actually create. I’m not saying their work doesn’t deserve to be featured, but you just can’t judge a book by it’s cover. In today’s culture, couple’s are sometimes booking their wedding vendors strictly based on how many Instagram followers they have or how many times they’ve been featured on popular wedding blogs like Style Me Pretty. It’s beyond frustrating when you’re a vendor that’s not willing to buy followers or buy a blog’s love. We do this work because we genuinely love it- it brings us so much joy to create for some of the most badass clients in the world. If in the end, a blog doesn’t want to feature my work, cool, I’ll just feature it on my OWN BLOG…where it can live forever in peace and quiet [while also hopefully getting the attention it deserves].

I have spent the last year being super bummed out that this shoot isn’t/wasn’t being featured by a big name wedding blog. Today, I am making a choice to not give these blogs the power to determine our work’s worth, which also means my worth. We know how hard we worked on this editorial and we know the product is worthy of love and admiration. <3

That’s all for today, folks. Enjoy looking at these pretty pictures. XO
