Ombre Dreams in the Arizona Desert: Alexa & Blake

It was a perfect February day in Scottsdale, Arizona. The skies were clear, the sun was shining- it was a breezy 75 degrees outside.

When Alexa & Blake came to us for help planning their big day, they had already booked their venue (Grayhawk Golf Club) and photographer (Tasha Brady Photography).  They had a vision for how they wanted the day to feel but weren’t quite sure how to make it look.  When using descriptive words during our design process, the terms “modern, glam, fun, unique” all continued to come up.  We knew the venue they had chosen wasn’t really a space typically described as ‘modern,’ so we knew we had a slightly tricky task on our hands.  We needed to make the overall feel of the event different than the feel the space gave off.

As we got to know Alexa & Blake better, we saw more of their style, their fantastic sense of humor, and just their all-around playfulness as a couple.  We knew with such bright personalities that COLOR needed to play a large role in their wedding day design.  Alexa is all girl- she loves to get dressed up, is a former NFL Cheerleader, and can rock some killer heels.  Blake is a super trendy, well dressed guy who isn’t afraid of a little pink.  With all of this said, we opted for an ombre color pallet that went from white, to cream, to blush, to hot pink, to fuchsia, to purple, to plum- with a few hints of red mixed in. It was the perfect answer to using a lot of the colors Alexa loved without making the event feel too girly. Plus, these colors paired perfectly with the bride’s blush Maggie Sottero wedding gown.

We carried this ombred look throughout the entire event via the incredible florals by The Wildflower AZ. The breathtaking ceremony setup consisted of a floral covered tree and an ombred aisle of petals set against the beautiful Sonoran Desert. The most #instaworthy detail of the event was the escort display.  We used a soft grey linen with hand lettered clear acrylic boxes filled with beautiful florals ombred down the table. Guest lined up to find their seat assignment, and to take photos & video on their phones.  It was quite the showstopper.  Speaking of acrylic, we opted for all acrylic signage for the event.  This, mixed with the white hand lettering, was a perfect fit for our modern vibe. In order to make the reception space feel slightly less desert golf club like, we draped the entire room in white.  It transformed the space and helped all of the details in the room really stand out. Parts of the ceremony tree florals were repurposed to the “V shaped” head table and to the dessert table- those florals were too good to only use once.  Each table had an ombred centerpiece and an acrylic table number.  Again, we opted for a soft grey linen to help the colors pop.

There were so many unique and fun parts of this wedding.  The groom’s killer vows and dance moves.  The couple’s first dance which started slow to the ever popular “A Thousand Years,” by Christina Perri and turned into a sexy Tango- red rose and all.  The perfectly choreographed ladies dance- the bride has been a dancer her whole life.  She gathered girls from every chapter of her dance story, borrowed some metallic poms from the AZ Cardinals cheerleaders, made up a routine, and surprised the wedding guests with a performance they are sure to never forget.  There were delicious chocolate chip cookies served with milk for dessert instead of your standard wedding cake. His & Hers custom cocktails served at the bar that were a HUGE hit.

Helping this couple create an event their guests are STILL talking about was truly a dream come true.  This wedding was not only beautiful, it was exactly Alexa & Blake and we believe that is the greatest compliment a wedding planner will ever receive.  A wedding that fully represents the couple getting married, is the best kind of wedding.
