Intimate Bougainvillea Inspired Elopement at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale

As a long-time supporter of equal rights and believer in the #loveislove movement, we had been longing for an opportunity to create a shoot dedicated strictly to this. We didn't want it to be a shoot we just "threw together" so we took our time designing something we'd be proud of and spent time gathering a team who believed in these same equalities. It was beyond important for us to have vendors involved that supported the LGBTQ+ community when we know not all vendors in Arizona do. After months of planning, we picked a date and then that date got pushed 3x due to different circumstances, including a full day of flooding rain in Arizona, [umm…what?]. But we were determined and this incredible team was beyond accommodating.

One of our favorite things about living in Arizona is all of the bright colored bougainvillea that grows naturally, everywhere. It appears to be around most of the year and you can't miss it. We knew we wanted to design the entire shoot around those stunning blooms. We opted to use a mix of copper and jewel tones to really enhance the fuchsia color of these flowers. We also knew we wanted to create an intimate family style dinner table that would have the most incredible view as its setting. Four Seasons Scottsdale is located in North Scottsdale, and is completely surrounded by mountains. It doesn't matter which way you look, the view is show stopping. We knew this was where we needed to create.

For the ceremony, we opted for a simpler setup- 2 different types of chairs and some bougainvillea. When designing in an open space surrounded by desert landscape, we didn't want to over do it. We always say, don't fight what's already there, embrace it and include it. Adding a bit of color to the greens and browns of the setting, allowed for the color to really pop. Shoutout to the Mint Green Design crew for hunting and gathering all of the bougainvillea for this shoot.

A Bakeshop crafted the perfect monochromatic bougainvillea cake that we couldn't take our eyes off of. Heidi with Idieh Design did all of the day's stationary. We knew we wanted to incorporate the bright colors while keeping the paper somewhat masculine. The steer skulls were the perfect addition to help make this happen and paired perfectly with the desert location. We used one on the vellum overlay of the invitation suit and used them to create a fun escort setup. Each escort item then doubled as a favor since the names were tied to an ornament. For the menus, we used 2 different wax seal colors for meal choice. This was a fun addition vs some of the more standard options we typically see like stickers added to a place card, for example. In our minds, this couple was going to be super trendy and we knew traditional just wasn't going to be the design route we needed to take.

The dinner table turned out even better than we had imagined. It really was the star of the show. The cascading bougainvillea against the colorful sunset was everything we could have wanted and more. The juxtaposition of the wood mixed with the velvet linens and the copper details made our hearts soar. The intimate family style setting paired with the copious amounts of candles & bright blooms, made for one romantic dinner setup. The jewel toned plates, the bougainvillea detail at every place setting, and the mix matched chairs were the perfect mix of unique and classy, in our opinion. Showcasing so much color on the tables is something we tend to do as a brand- this shoot really exemplifies just how much fun you can have with colors beyond blush and gold. ;)

Our grooms were hired models, but also happend to be a real life couple (which we were really STOKED about). They were naturals in front of the cameras and weren't afraid to showcase their 3+ years of real love. Both guys came fully dressed in their own attire- one in a custom floral suit gifted to him by Mr. Turk, himself, and the other in a perfectly fitted Suit Supply getup. The opposing looks were exactly what was needed in order to complete the overall design we'd hoped for.

Daniel Kim is a photo genius and Love Story Films captured magic! We hope you love this colorful shoot as much as we do. It will be a forever favorite for sure!
