A Sweet Nashville Engagement Session: Katy & Hunter
Katy & Hunter came to us just a couple months ago seeking help with their destination wedding set to happen in Scottsdale in April. They are one of the “lucky” couples who have been forced to navigate through COVID while engaged and are now planning their THIRD wedding day. We immediately jumped on board to help and have enjoyed the process with these two so much. They have been such good sports and BEYOND kind through all of the ups and downs and we feel so honored to now be helping them create the wedding of their dreams that they never knew they could still have during these crazy times. We’ve loved getting to know them from afar, as they currently live in North Carolina, and we can’t wait to celebrate them next month. Before we do though, we wanted to share their sweet story with all of you, along with their darling engagement photos from Nashville done by their friend, Kristin Miller.
From the bride:
“Hunter and I met in 2013 in Finance class at Elon University when I was a senior and he was a junior (cougar, I know). Hunter, now an Investment Banker, was obviously a finance wiz and I was well, not so much a finance wiz. What started out as nonchalantly trying to get in the same group for projects, turned into a thoughtful date planned by Hunter, followed by many many more.
Our post-graduation jobs found us long distance for two years, I was in Charlotte, NC and Hunter was in Wilmington, NC by the beach. Every other weekend one of us would drive the 4 hours to see the other. What seemed like a huge inconvenience and a time/money suck, turned into something that we’re both extremely thankful is part of our story today. The long distance relationship those two years allowed us to grow individually while also growing together, and it helped us put into practice the importance of communication and resilience in relationships.
Hunter finally quit his job and moved in with me in Charlotte, while we made the decision together that going back to get his MBA was the next step in his career and in our relationship. This meant, moving to Nashville for two years! We loved getting to start a new chapter in our book in such a fun city and grew so much as a couple there. We lived right in the middle of madness of music row and could open our back doors to hear live music every night.
Before moving to Nashville, we had discussed getting engaged, so I knew it was coming. All of our mutual friends were asking him about it ALL the time (says Hunter) but all the while he was working on creating a custom built ring so the process was taking a bit longer. I was traveling almost every week up to NYC for work and the main time we got to spend together was Saturday night date nights, which usually consisted of trying a new restaurant in Nashville and listening to live music at our favorite local bar afterwards. He made this date night just like any other so I wouldn’t be on high alert, and took us to a rooftop bar for a drink and asked a random woman to take a picture of us while the sun was setting. After she snapped a few pictures, he asked for just one more picture and got down on one knee! It was such a special moment and the entire bar started clapping! We also got some fab pictures out of it (thank you random woman!!).
All of our family and friends had been dying to visit Nashville so we planned for a short engagement and a big wedding at the Country Music Hall of Fame before Hunter graduated the following summer and we moved back to Charlotte. Covid forced us to postpone our original date of June 6th, 2020 to April 10th, 2021. With Covid still lingering and us having moved on from our Nashville life and settled back in Charlotte, we have decided to scrap the Nashville plan together and opt for an intimate wedding with our closest family and friends in Scottsdale, Arizona where my parents live on April 17th, 2021. Although stressful, the resilience and communication we learned early on has really helped us grow together through our wedding planning (and re-planning and re-planning again) process and we CAN’T WAIT to officially tie the knot in April.”
