A Rainbow Goddess in the Dreamy Desert: A Creative Inspo Shoot for the Non-Traditional Bride

When thinking about our brand and our dream client, it's those who aren't afraid to be different. The wedding industry is over saturated with likeminded individuals creating these beautiful events that we've seen created a hundred times. It's not to say that is a bad thing, it' just not our thing. We pride ourselves on being different, on creating something people want to pin...not something that's already been pinned over and over again.

We had sworn off styled shoots as we've done many in our career and felt we were being creatively fulfilled by our client's real weddings. Then we saw this new Spring 2019 rainbow dress from Willowby by Watters was going to be arriving at one of our fav dress shops in AZ, J Bridal Boutique. There was NO WAY we could pass up an opportunity like this dress. It's unique, different, and absolutely stunning. It takes a certain kind of bride to be daring enough to wear such a dress and that type of bride is OUR bride. This dress is so magical, we decided to do an entire shoot center around it. Just the dress, a beautiful girl in the dress, an incredible bouquet, and a show stopping scenic backdrop- not a large production shoot. At the last minute we were chatting with Jesse Jo of Freed Hands and came up with an incredible corresponding holographic invite idea, so we did include that in the shoot as well.

When thinking about this colorful dress, we knew there was only one photographer that could capture the true essence of this dress in all of its glory, and that was the color queen herself, Lea of Vienna Glenn Photography. She's known around the world for capturing life's colorful moments so candidly and effortlessly. And when we saw these images, we knew we had made the right choice. She is a true artist.

The day of this shoot, we traveled about 75 miles north of Phoenix to a rest stop. Yes, you read that right, the insane views you see in these images is at a local rest stop scouted out by the photographer. The weather was cold and a bit iffy at times- switching from wind, to rain, to sleet, to snow, and back again... all in a matter of a couple hours. The sun breaking through the clouds for only several seconds at a time. While our poor model was frozen for most of the shoot, she was the true champion of the day. She rocked it and never complained. In our minds, the weather was not ideal, however, after seeing Lea's images, we knew the weather was exactly as it was supposed to be that day. The sky allowed for these breathtaking images to be taken. The sky really made the day.

We decided to do several looks to pair with the dress. The first being very natural hair and makeup, very bride-like, if you will. Lea found a vintage crown second hand and once it was placed on our model's head, she transformed into a Grecian goddess right before our eyes. The second look was slightly more creative adding a braid filled with florals and makeup fit for a pop star owning the stage. Both looks complimented the rainbow dress entirely and we loved having the variety.

There aren't enough words to describe the magic that is the jaw-dropping bridal bouquet done by Mint Green Design. We know how talented Aspen is as a designer, so we really just let her create. She knew what the dress looked like and that was about as much direction as we gave her. The colors were the perfect pastel pallet and I've never seen anything like those peach cascading orchids. The entire thing was absolutely gorgeous.

This shoot was done purely out of a creative desire to dream big and take risks. Allowing this team of vendors to come together and create something simply for fun, was a sight to be seen. And the end result, images we are all so excited about and proud of. At the end of the day, that's the reason to do styled shoots.
